Wedding Photography Cozumel by Gavin Higgins.
Tell the story of your Cozumel wedding day with stunning images that you will be proud to display in your home, to show to your friends, and to be treasured by your family for generations to come.
Based in Tulum, Mexico, we also cover the entire Riviera Maya (Cancun, Tulum, Playa Del Carmen, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres) and locations around Mexico and abroad when required as destination wedding photographers.
We love capturing the moments between the moments on your Cozumel wedding day. The cheeky smile, the unhinged belly-laugh, the tear rolling down a cheek. We want to capture the real raw emotions of your special day and present them in a way that enables you to relive those moments over and over again.
When we pose couples, we try to make your portraits look natural and candid. We want you to forget the camera is there and just enjoy the moment and let your love shine through authentically.
We want you to be relaxed and comfortable with us, and we take care to build your confidence and gently guide you where necessary.
No two Cozumel weddings are alike, and we work hard to make sure we treat your Cozumel wedding with the utmost attention and respect.
Please connect with us, and let’s discuss your unique Cozumel wedding and how best we can tell your story.
Cozumel is a beautiful island located conveniently just off the coast of Mexico’s Riviera Maya. With white sandy beaches and turquoise waters dotted with palm trees and rich Mexican culture and heritage, Cozumel is dynamite in a small package! Boasting all the modern amenities you would expect in a mainland city, Cozumel retains its island charm with its many open spaces and carefully controlled development. Cozumel should be high on your list of possible wedding venues in the Mexican Caribbean with almost year-round perfect weather, fantastic scenery, great nightlife, warm people, and a long list of activities. |
If you have the means, Cozumel has its very own airport, so you can fly straight there if you wish. How most people get to Cozumel is to arrive by plane in Cancun, to taxi to Playa Del Carmen, and then to take a 90-minute ferry to Cozumel. You can purchase packages at the airport that will take you through to the island also. You can also rent a car in Cancun and drive to Playa and then ferry your vehicle across. The island does have many transport options like taxis and busses, however, and you can rent all manner of vehicles. My personal favorite is a hatchback with the roof cut-off and transformed into a mini-convertible. |
Cozumel has a tropical savannah climate and a pronounced dry season; however, temperatures are hot year-round, and there is minimal seasonal variation in temperature.
July to September is the “rainy season” in Cozumel. However, there are few “rainy days” as the rain generally is heavy and short-lived before the sun returns. Nevertheless, there are exceptional bargains to be had in Cozumel between July and September, so you can often get the best rates at this time of year.
Expect average daily temperatures of around 31°C, with overnight lows of 21°C. June and September see a fair amount of rain, although July and August are considerably drier.
October and November form Cozumel’s autumn. This is a popular time to visit as the breezes take the edge off the heat, and the rain dies down too. Daily highs of 31°C and overnight lows of 18°C are highly do-able, and it’s often ideal weather for the beach and for exploring the local area.
Winter is Cozumel’s high season. Between December and February, you can expect to see a lot of crowds, and you may have to book your hotel well in advance. Temperatures fall only slightly, to around 28°C in the daytime and 17°C overnight, and there is little rain. If you’re visiting Cozumel in the winter, pack for a beach holiday.
Cozumel’s brief spring period falls in March and April, and this is the driest part of the year, with scarce rain and intense sunshine. Daily highs of 31°C and overnight lows of 20°C are in tune with the rest of the year’s temperatures, but with little rain and few breezes, it can feel too hot to make the most of the area’s exceptional beauty and history.
1. Visit the Punta Sur Ecological Park
Punta Sur Eco Beach is the best beach on the Island, and a visit to this eco-park is one of the top things to do in Cozumel. This area is located on the south of the island and covers an area of 2,500 acres. Here you’ll find exotic birds, crocodiles, sea turtles, beautiful flowers, and beautiful beaches – the perfect place for nature lovers. |
A unique way of experiencing the underwater world is by trying helmet diving with Seatrek. The fully enclosed helmet sits neatly on your shoulders, and a steady stream of air assists you in breathing. |
Located on the northern part of Cozumel, tucked away in the undeveloped jungle, you’ll find the San Gervasio Archaeological Site (Tantun Cuzamil) |
A visit to the family-owned and operated Cozumel Pearl Farm is a unique excursion where you are taken by boat to a secluded beach on an uninhabited area of Cozumel. |
1. Experience a Mayan Cacao Ceremony
One of the many things Mayans are known for was their production of chocolate from the beans of the cacao trees. After the fermenting, drying and roasting, they ground the beans into a paste, added hot water, and made the first hot chocolate drink. |
There are many beach clubs and bars on the west coast, where you can hire kayaks, laze on sunbeds or enjoy the beach club. |
This is one of the best things to do in Cozumel! There are many things to see around the island, and hopping aboard a boat is the best way to do so. |
Scuba Diving along the Mesoamerican Reef is second to none. If you are an advanced scuba diver, you have the option to dive at advanced sites in Cozumel like Maracaibo, Devil’s Throat, Cathedral, or Barracuda. |
5. Go Fishing
Barracuda, mahi-mahi, and triggerfish are some of the local catch around Cozumel. You can catch tuna all year round, and from March to July, white and blue marlin and sailfish are available. |
All of their pasta is freshly made with high-quality ingredients. The goal of K’ooben Laab brings together healthy and creative food with a modern twist on dishes that have been passed down through generations. |
Who makes the best tacos in Cozumel is a fierce debate. It’s a common discussion point that many people will dive into when you’re looking for the best tacos in Cozumel. |
This is a bit more reserved and high-end, being part of a private beach club located on San Juan Beach, just a short jaunt from town. So not only can you get a great meal, but you’ll also have amazing views from the club itself! |
If you’re looking for something simple and delicious that will be great every time you stop by, check out Corazon Contento. They do breakfast, lunch, and brunch. |
5 Diego’s
This restaurant is easy to access, especially when coming right from the airport. They offer Mexican, Caribbean, and seafood dishes at great prices! |
From the infinity pool overlooking the ocean to beachside yoga classes, a floating pontoon dock for sunbathing, and, come margarita-o’clock, an ever-popular floating bar, everything here is designed with style and substance in mind. Even the restaurant and guest rooms are kitted out with crafts by Mexican artists. Not to mention the location within Cozumel’s northern hotel zone, a quick five minutes from all the restaurants and shops of the island’s downtown area, makes Hotel B’s affordable rates all that more irresistible. |
PlayaAzul is intimate by Mexico standards—just 50 rooms, all with partial or full ocean views—but guests get unlimited complimentary greens fees at the Jack Nicklaus-designed course at the Cozumel Country Club. Non-golfers have lots to do here, too, including sunning and listening to live music (Sundays only) at the hotel’s beach club, going out for a dive with the on-site scuba center, or indulging in a treatment at Savia Spa, where therapies like aromatherapy massages and body scrubs take their inspiration from ancient Mayan wellness rituals. |
The Explorean Cozumel offers the coziness of a boutique stay with all the benefits of an all-inclusive resort. You’re on the island’s western side, on Uvas Beach, so outings to nearby Chankanaab National Park and Mayan ruins are among the many options for day trips. Guest rooms, however, can be difficult to abandon, with their spacious balconies overlooking the jungle and oversized rain showers for rinsing off after the beach. Staying here also gets you full access to sister property Fiesta Americana Resort, where you’ll find overwater sunbeds and a swim-up bar. |
4 Presidente InterContinental Cozumel Resport & Spa
As far as Cozumel hotels go, it doesn’t get more luxurious than the Presidente InterContinental Cozumel Resort & Spa, whose prestigious InterContinental branding lends it a step up in nearly every category, from the service to the amenities. That the property sits miles from port ensures peace and quiet, whether you’re lazing by the beachfront infinity pool, booking an excursion at the on-site scuba diving center, or dining at the Italian trattoria. All rooms have private balconies for soaking up the sea, resort, or jungle views, and the hotel’s spa is considered the best on the island. |
The all-inclusive Occidental Cozumel mixes hacienda-inspired and Spanish Colonial architecture in a pretty setting on the island’s southwestern stretch. Scuba divers love the property for its location near Palancar Reef, and the on-site dive shop does everything but blow bubbles for you underwater. The hotel is popular with couples and families, too, thanks to the quiet white-sand beach at its doorstep, three swimming pools, and a wide range of water sports that include kayaking, sailing, and even water polo. |

At the resort’s adjacent sister property, couples can tie the knot on a private stretch of sand. The Fiesta Americana Cozumel’s on-site wedding planner is available to assist with arranging all ceremony and reception details. |
4 Presidente InterContinental Cozumel Resport &
The resort offers both indoor and outdoor venues for wedding ceremonies and receptions. The private beach is the preferred location for wedding ceremonies. Reception venues include the beach and gardens and a variety of indoor salons like the large Coral Room, which can accommodate up to 160 guests for a banquet-style reception and up to 250 guests for a reception. |

Our guiding light as Cozumel wedding photographers is to deliver an exceptional wedding photography experience to our valued clients. It’s not just about getting pretty photos, although we are going to do that too!

It’s about having the people-skills to keep the bridal couple, as well as the bridal party and families happy. Cozumel Wedding photography is our passion, and we would love to discuss how we can capture your Cozumel wedding day in a way that leaves you smiling for years to come.
Leave your contact information and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
Great we’re halfway there! I’m so happy that you love my wedding images. The next steps are to choose or create a package that suits your budget and then to have a chat to see if we are a good fit for each other.
We have a variety of pre-built wedding photography packages that cover most wedding budgets and photography needs, but we don’t take a cookie-cutter approach to anything we do for our wedding clients, and so we are happy to discuss your specific wedding budget or set of photography needs and to formulate a custom wedding photography package for you if you desire.
Once you have chosen a pre-built wedding package or have a clear idea of your budget and needs, the next step is to connect. We will do a deep dive into the specifics of your wedding day and how we work, and what you can and shouldn’t expect from us as your wedding photographers. This usually takes around an hour and can be done in person, over the phone, or via a Zoom/Skye/Whatsapp video call.
If we are a good fit, we will send you a wedding booking proposal, and once accepted and the deposit is paid, your wedding will be booked!
We are available to photograph weddings seven days a week.
We go through your wedding timeline for the day in detail and formulate a wedding photography timeline well in advance of the day. So you will know where we are and what we are photographing the entire day. We are also skilled at thinking on the fly and dealing with wedding timeline conflicts on the day as smoothly as possible.
Wedding coverage usually ends at 10 pm.
If this is something you require, we can facilitate it, but generally, we work on location for wedding photography.
For weddings, it will usually be Gavin Higgins and a photography assistant. Some packages will include a second photographer to ensure more comprehensive coverage.
I would prefer that only the people being photographed be there for the photoshoot. I do understand, however, that there will be circumstances where others will need to be in attendance, and in these situations, I ask that they give us space and do not distract you or interfere with the shoot so that I can concentrate on getting you the best images possible. If someone is interfering with my ability to provide the required services, I reserve the right to ask them to leave.
The number of wedding images you can expect to receive will be stated in your chosen wedding package or your personalized quote.
For weddings, we generally suggest a minimum number of images as we don’t like maximums. We don’t want to withhold great memories because of a number. We will edit and provide ALL of the good ones.
It’s important to remember that the number of wedding images delivered can depend on various factors such as the number of wedding guests, the amount of time on location, receptiveness of wedding guests to being photographed, etc
As professional wedding photographers, every image that we deliver to our clients has been carefully selected and retouched to meet our standards of quality and style. Therefore, our RAW (or not enhanced) digital negatives are generally not available to clients. Of course, there can be exceptions to this when agreed to before the wedding and well documented in the contract. In those instances, the client has the option to purchase, for an additional fee, the exclusive copyright for our art.
Have a camera; will travel!

Travel, meals, accommodation, and other associated costs will need to be considered when creating your tailor-made wedding quote.
Yes! We know your wedding is unique, and we are happy to formulate a wedding package that perfectly fits your needs.

No. Video is a specialized area and you should consider contracting a professional in this area if it is important to you. I can refer you to a few if you wish.
There is a reason Tulum has become such a popular destination on the Yucatan Peninsula. It’s the coming together of the history of the nearby Mayan ruins, the energy and creativity of the town, and the stunning landscape of a town where the lush green jungle meets the azure Caribbean sea and powder-white beaches.
Tulum used to be a quiet beach town, but The pull of ancient Mayan energies added to the magic of the natural wonders and historic sites have been attracting spiritually centered tourism for decades. These Days, Tulum has become a thriving tourism hot spot featuring modern hotels and resorts and all the amenities you could need.
Tulum is located on the eastern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula in Quintana Roo, Mexico. Tulum is around 45 minutes south of Playa del Carmen and 90 minutes south of Cancun by road.
Tulum is famous for turquoise Caribbean waters, white-sand beaches, and world-class snorkeling and diving. Not to mention the food and parties! Your wedding guests will also have a fantastic time because there is so much to explore and do.
Cancun is recognized worldwide for its spectacular white sand beaches and its fascinating sea in turquoise blue tones. With unique natural places, Mayan culture, water activities, and adventure. International Cuisine, spectacular golf courses, sophisticated spa facilities, exclusive shopping centers, typical handicraft markets, as well as shows, bars, and nightclubs that give fame to its incomparable nightlife.
Playa Del Carmen used to be a sleepy fishing village but is now a Riviera Maya destination in its own right. Its lively nightlife and boutiques complement local taquerias and chic luxury hotels—all a bit more authentically Mexican than Cancun, just up the coast. During the day, you can head to the beach or take the ferry to Cozumel, and at night, stroll La Quinta (the city’s main pedestrian thoroughfare and center of its nightlife) for some people-watching and excellent margaritas. And that’s not all; fantastic diving and snorkeling are just offshore, while the ancient ruins of Coba tower over the inland jungles nearby.
Isla Mujeres is a beautiful, peaceful paradise island across the Bahia de Mujeres (Bay of Women) from Cancun, Mexico. Isla Mujeres is a more laid-back and tranquil location than Cancun, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty to do! You can fill your day with water sports, shopping, exploring, and making new friends in Isla Mujeres.
Known for stunning white sand beaches, calm, clear blue waters, and some of the friendliest locals in the Mexican Caribbean. Isla’s diversity, from fishermen, artists, musicians, divers, chefs & ex-pats, form a unique community. Combining the beauty of the Caribbean, the history of the Mayans, and the infectious charm of the local people, Isla Mujeres has become a haven for people from all corners of the globe.
The beautiful island of Cozumel is located just off the northeast coast of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula—directly across the sea from Playa Del Carmen & about 90 minutes from the Cancun airport.
Located on the Great Mesoamerican Barrier Reef (the 2nd largest coral reef in the world), Cozumel is in a perfect spot for crystal-clear Caribbean waters, white powder sand beaches, and world-class diving and snorkeling.
The Riviera Maya will never cease to amaze you.
The Riviera Maya coastline along highway 307 between Cancun in the North and Tulum in the south. Popular locations along this route include Cancun, Playa Del Carmen, and Tulum. Between the towns are many resorts, hotels, restaurants and a wide variety of tourist attractions.
With over 120 km of crystal-clear waters, its white-sand beaches, cenotes, ancient archaeological sites, natural parks and theme parks, magnificent hotels, and exquisite cuisine, the Riviera Maya is paradise on Earth!
From the Caribbean Sea to the Pacific Ocean, countless coastal Mexican towns and cities are excellent all year round. Even in 2020, a year impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, over 23 Million tourists traveled to Mexico. The appeal is obvious—crystal clear waters, white sandy beaches, ancient Mayan ruins, many all-inclusive resorts, authentic margaritas, and delicious Mexican cuisine—and it extends beyond the average vacation. The country is also a delightfully tropical wedding destination.
A destination wedding in Mexico starts with determining where you want to spend your wedding day. Popular wedding location options include Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, Tulum, and more, and where you’ll end up comes down to what you’re looking for.
Found yourself a picturesque corner of the globe to host your destination wedding? Then the next thing to tick off on your to-do list will be finding a fantastic destination wedding photographer to capture your wedding day.
